Cool???

The word "COOL" must be one of the most overused words on the internet - it seems like if it's on the net then it must be COOL. Well we all know thats not always the case. Desktop Wallpapers / Picture Galleries - there must be tens of thousands of web sites offering up images, so what makes COOL PICS any different from the rest? Are we also over doing the COOL hype?

COOL PICS was launched in September 2007 and from the very start our idea was, and still is, to find or create images somewhat different from the usual. We wanted to present strong clear images, different, alternative, sometimes dark, sometimes shocking even - images that capture attention - images that no one else has. Even more, we wanted to make it as easy as possible to view and download our images - big top quality images wherever possible - and we are still dedicated to that quest.

No Registration Required

Don't you just hate those web sites that expect you to register with them just to download a desktop wallpaper? And if you do register then no surprise if they keep sending you emails about their latest updates which in some cases are nothing more than 5 or 6 pictures in a week. Well we hate that also - so we don't want or require any registrations at all. We are 100% FREE.

Huge Thumbs

It seems to be something of a trend amongst web site designers to offer the smallest thumb nails possible, so much so that in many cases (especially if you use a higher screen resolution) you have absolutely no idea what you are looking at. When you click the tiny thumb you are often offered a slighly larger picture but you still will need to click again to see if the image is to your liking. Not here.

We offer the largest thumb nails of any web site - currently 700x525 for our deaktop wallpaper section. You can see exactly what you are getting without any further clicking - and you only need to click once more to get straight to the image download. Easy.

10 Images Per Page

Another of our "pet hates" are those web sites that offer "One Picture Per Page" - yes you know the ones - to see the next image you must click a link that actually takes you to another page - what a waste of time and effort on the users part. Well not here.

We offer 10 huge thumb nails per page - less clicking around - less fuss. Easy.

Download Entire Pages As A WinZip File

Downloading images one by one can be annoying and extremely tedious, and we have taken that fact into consideration. Our newest method of offering images for download in the desktop wallpaper section is to offer 2 download styles - download just one image if you like or download the entire contents of the page in a single WinZip file - just one click - free from virus. Easy.

Elastic/Liquid Web Site

How do you like those web sites that are statically designed, which means if your screen resolution does not coincide with theirs then you must use the bottom scroll bar to move back and forth on each page to see all the content - damned annoying. Or how about those web sites with tiny text that is pretty much unreadable. Not here.

Both our web site and text use Elastic/Liquid designs and there should never be a bottom scroll bar in sight except on the full size image viewing pages. Simply make sure your browser window is set to maximized. Our text can be increased in size in your browser IE6, IE7, Firefox, etc. using the "Zoom" feature or the "Text Size" feature according to the browser you are currently using. Easy.

What Else?

We hate false links - here at COOL PICS it is very simple - what you see is what you get - NO FALSE LINKS.

Web site names/logos plastered across images - it's ugly and it's misleading - we don't do that here, although unfortunately some images have already been plastered by other web sites.

There are NO PopUps, PopUnders, or PopAnythings here.

Conclusion

We are still a very new web site and we are working hard to bring it all together - some visible works are currently underway with our layout, and some works are invisible and "behind the scenes" but we remain dedicated to our original goals - quality  and unusual images - easy navigation and downloads - and above all a place to come back to for that special image, or just an interesting place to look around out of curiousity.
